Hidden Serpent…
Undoubtedly, there are great defenders and sympathizers of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as of women, black people, mixed-race individuals, the poor, the elderly… In short, clear-minded, good-natured personalities who are friends to all and to themselves.
And yet, prejudice is everywhere, taking refuge in hidden places, in the folds of our unconscious, revealing itself plainly in behavior — often through subtle, well-camouflaged expressions, including to ourselves.
If, on a smaller scale, this occurs even among those of us who strive to overcome our own prejudiced impulses, one can only imagine the horror of the degraded attitudes of individuals who surrender, unbridledly, to their displays of gratuitous lovelessness and hatred.
It is worth emphasizing that the diabolical tentacles of prejudice afflict not only members of minority groups, but every human being — since any person has already suffered some form of discrimination and, increasingly, through the unforeseeable circumstances of life or the mere passage of years, will become an inexorable victim, if not of their own prejudice, then of another’s cruelty.
